Advanced Teaching

The Advanced Teaching concentration allows experienced certified teachers to pursue professional growth in an area of particular interest and to earn an advanced degree
The Advanced Teaching program allows experienced teachers and adminstrators to deepen their understanding of a specialized area such as math, science, literacy or gifted education.
Advanced Teaching is designed to offer experienced certified educators opportunities to deepen their knowledge and develop their professional strengths and resources. Hallmarks of our approach include opportunities for shared reflection and inquiry using innovative technologies.

The Advanced Teaching concentration allows experienced educators to pursue professional growth in an area of particular interest and to earn an advanced degree. Course work is highly individualized and may be linked to ongoing research toward a specialized understanding of a field or topic that pertains to teaching and learning.

The four concentrations within Advanced Teaching are as follows:

Distinctive benefits of the concentration include the following:
  • Faculty enrich classrooms with the real-world experience of their professional practice.
  • Students from diverse backgrounds broaden the knowledge base.
  • A strong curriculum offers core courses emphasizing shared reflection and inquiry.
  • Through a three-quarter master's project students explore a topic of interest in depth.
  • A one-year option allows students to complete the program in four quarters, or students may pursue the degree part-time.
  • Alumni enjoy successful teaching careers in a wide range of school settings.

Students in the Advanced Teaching concentration frequently pursue the degree on a part-time basis. Admitted students may begin the MSEd program at the start of any academic quarter. Degree requirements must be completed within five years of the academic quarter of admission.
