A Day with Northwestern Features Talk by Regina Logan As baby boomers move into middle age, they may feel drawn to new aspects of their current careers or to completely different careers. At A Day with Northwestern on April 18, SESP research assistant professor Regina Logan (PhD93) will address alumni about current trends in midlife careers.Her talk, “Giving Back: Midlife Career Change and Generativity,” will explore research on “generativity,” or the midlife adult’s need to leave a legacy or give something back to society. In many ways generativity research applies to recent trends in midlife careers. Logan, who is the director of the Foley Longitudinal Study of Adulthood, has extensive experience in teaching and learning in adulthood. She is also a graduate of the Human Development and Social Policy doctoral program at SESP. Logan’s talk is scheduled for 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. at Norris University Center. The lecture is open to the Northwestern community and the general public, with registration through the Northwestern Alumni Association. The fee for a single lecture is $20. A Day with Northwestern, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., features talks by prominent professors and alumni. Topics at the 40th annual seminar day range from sports to the future of the economy to the politics of Israel and Palestine. Keynote addresses will be given by Stephen Kinzer, the Charles Moskos Visiting Professor of Military Studies at the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences and former New York Times bureau chief, and Steven G. Calabresi, Charles C. Dix Professor of Law and co-founder of the Federalist Society. Registration for the daylong seminar or for individual lectures at A Day with Northwestern is at http://www.alumni.northwestern.edu/adwn09.
