Hardware

  • 16 PowerMac G4s for student, staff and faculty use. Each PowerMac G4 has a minimum of 256Mbs of RAM, 30+Gbs of hard drive space and internal ZIP drives. Each station is also equipped with 20-inch Macintosh monitors, keyboard and mouse. Each station has a Sony Hi-8 video player and the ability to connect an “outside” video/audio source, via a Firewire connection.

  • Two stations within the lab are equipped with CD-ROM burners. These burners can handle both CD-R and CD-RW disks. The software used for burning (creating) CDs is called Toast. This software can be found on each of the burning stations. The two stations with CD-ROM burners are; MultiLab 7 and MultilLab_BurnScan. The later also has scanning abilities, with an Hewlett Packard ScanJet Iicx, connected.

  • Two other stations within the lab also have scanners. MultiLab 8 is equipped with a Hewlett Packard Scanjet 5500c scanner. MultiLab 9 is equipped with a Hewlett Packard Scanjet 4570c scanner. Each of the three scanning stations has various software to perform scans.

  • One machine in the lab, MultiLab 10, has an external diskette drive attached. Another external diskette drive is connected to SESP_Burner_1, located in the Digitizing Room, next door to the lab. Each of these machines will allow the user to use 3.5” diskettes, in PC or Mac format.
