Procedures, required materials, deadlines and other information on applying for admission to the Graduate School of Northwestern University.
The online application for both the PhD and Master of Arts programs becomes available in early October of each year.
Applications for the Learning Sciences PhD program are accepted for fall quarter matriculation only. Applications must be received by December 31 before the fall start date. Applicants Interested in the PhD program are encouraged to contact Pauline Shih at any time.
Applications and test scores should be submitted directly to The Graduate School. All other materials should be submitted directly to the Learning Sciences program assistant (address below). The following application documents are required:
- Graduate School online application
- Application fee of $75 submitted online
- Official transcripts mailed to the Learning Sciences Assistant
- Two letters of recommendation (may be submitted online OR by mail)
- Statement of purpose
- GRE scores (send scores via code #1565)
- Resume and writing sample
- English proficiency scores for non-native English speakers: For the TOEFL, you must score 600 or higher on the paper-based test, 250 or higher on the computer-based test, 100 or higher on the internet based test. For the IELTS, you must receive a score of 7.0 or higher.
