David Rapp Wins Teaching Award Associate professor David Rapp recently won the 2009 teaching award from the Undergraduate Psychology Association. Alice Eagly, chair of Northwestern University’s Department of Psychology, announced the award on June 3. Rapp is a faculty member in the School of Education and Social Policy’s Learning Sciences program and also in the Department of Psychology, where his area is cognitive psychology. During the 2008–09 academic year, he taught Cognitive Psychology and The Psychology of Learning Design and Technology. His research interests include reading comprehension, narrative and expository experiences and various aspects of learning. Specifically these relate to mental and situation models, translation of cognitive science research to educational settings, multimedia learning and visualizations as learning tools. Rapp is also the coordinator of the Learning Sciences doctoral program. He received his PhD in experimental psychology from the State University of New York, Stony Brook, and his bachelor’s degree in psychology from State University of New York, Albany. The Undergraduate Psychology Association is a group of Northwestern undergraduate students who share an interest in psychology. The organization sponsors academic and social events, peer advising and panel discussions throughout the school year, with the goal of encouraging learning about psychology and promoting student-faculty interaction.
