Outline of Master's Project Chronology
First Academic Term in the Program:
-Students begin thinking about possible research questions and exploring existing resources about the domain of interest.
Late October:
-Students attend a master's project orientation session in late Oct.
-Preliminary sign-up for 407 Literature Review and Reserch Methodology & 408 Analysis Interpretation and Dissemination.
1st Week of December:
Due: Preliminary Master's Project Plan, including:
-Preliminary Research Question & rationale
-Reading Plan
-Discussion Text & Question Cluster for 406
Winter Quarter:
-Year-long peer research teams are established
-Informal data collection in field sites (particularly informal observation and/or interview notes, dated journal reflections from work in field setting, artifact collection)
-Continued reading within domain
-Students provide copies of project proposals to each member of peer research team
- Peer research team member read each others' proposals
407 Literature Review and Research Methodology (Winter or Spring)- 1st Half:
-Interpretive Discussion
-Refinement of Basic Question for master's project
-Development of Literature Review
-Due: End of 1st half of 407:
-Reflection on interpretive discussion process in relation to master's project including refined basic question
-Draft of master's project literature review
407 Literature Review and Research Methodology (Winter or Spring)- 2nd Half:
-Understanding research paradigms
-Learning and using data collection techniques
-Due: End of 2nd half of 407
-Data collection plan and ethics statement
408 Analysis Interpretation and Dissemination (Final Qtr. In Program) - 1st Half:
-Data analysis techniques
-Due: End of 1st half of 408
-Draft of master's project
-Project: poster version
408 Analysis Interpretation and Dissemination (Final Qtr. In Program) - 2nd Half:
-Discussion of uses of practitioner research
-Project presentations
-Due: End of 2nd half of 408
-Reflection on master's project experiences & practitioner research
-Completed master's project
