The Center for Learning & Organizational Change

MSLOC partnerships, CLOC In affiliation with the MSLOC Program, the Center for Learning & Organizational Change (CLOC) at Northwestern University was created to be the premier resource for organizational leaders who are interested in creating value by applying relevant theories and practices of performance-driven learning, knowledge management and strategic change.

We help organizations think about issues that traditionally fall under categories such as change implementation, workplace effectiveness, business alignment, organizational development, process efficiency and knowledge management. We work with our partners to translate knowledge of cognitive, social, structural, financial and learning-based practices into the work of assessment, solution design and implementation—all with a view toward creating value for the organization.

To become a CLOC community member and take advantage of the networking, lectures, brown bag discussions and knowledge sharing, please send an email to cloc@northwestern.edu. Make sure you tell us your specific areas of interest and how we can contact you.

CLOC Partnership Program

CLOC Partnerships are formed when organizations engage MSLOC students in projects through internships and practicum work. A practicum is a 10-week consulting engagement that students complete to demonstrate their skills in applying MSLOC concepts to actual organizational challenges.

Partners provide complex challenges and strategic projects that students can learn from while sharpening their skills. Graduate students work individually or in small teams to complete work that an advanced practitioner would typically accomplish through a consulting engagement. It’s a win-win opportunity for both students and CLOC Partners.

How the CLOC Partnership Program Works
CLOC staff members work with you to understand your business needs and expectations and broker individual students or student teams to deliver project outcomes.

MSLOC students work as individuals or as consulting teams to contribute LOC-based knowledge and expertise, and they draw on the support and coaching of faculty and staff who oversee the engagement process and ensure client satisfaction. In exchange, partner organizations are required to make an educational contribution to fund faculty supervision and project management. The amount of the contribution will depend on the scope and resource demand of the project, but will always be well below market rates.

Before they can join a partnership engagement, MSLOC students must complete the core graduate courses that cover advanced training in Learning & Performance, Knowledge Management and Strategic Change.

In addition, MSLOC students complete classes that build competency in consulting skills, research methods and design. These students bring with them a fresh perspective, an eagerness to contribute and learn, intensive training in LOC theory and practice, and a solid grounding in LOC methodologies.

To become a CLOC partner and bring in our graduate students to work on current business challenges in your organization, please call the Practicum Adviser at 847/467-1481.
