Certificate
Five resident certificate programs are offered to meet the experienced professional’s need for an organized portfolio of courses and experiences with which to build specialized expertise without investing in an entire master's program. To fulfill the requirements for a certificate, students combine MSLOC core classes with real-world consulting and independent study to total five units of credit. Students pursuing a certificate elect up to five MSLOC core courses. The courses offered for a certificate are the same courses offered within the master's degree program. The application process is the same as for the non-degree option (see preceding paragraph).
Certificate options that feature the MSLOC program's core courses are the following:
MSLOC is now accepting applications for the MSLOC Certificate in Strategic Change Management, a low-residency cohort program with classes beginning in spring 2009 (application deadline is January 12, 2009).
The new low-residency option is based on a classroom-session schedule requiring four on-campus visits, each three to five days in length, to complete five courses. Certificate courses are selected from our full-degree curriculum specifically to provide you with a deeper foundation in organizational change and new capabilities to lead change efforts in your organization — whether you work in a corporate, not-for-profit or education setting.
You will learn both theory and application in designing and executing sustainable strategic change, social network analysis, transformational consulting, and organizational learning and performance. MSLOC certificate courses are the same graduate courses that resident, full-degree students complete. Convenience and flexibility are maximized in the low-residency option without sacrificing academic rigor. Students who are eligible to join Northwestern's MSLOC master's degree program may apply these units to complete the full degree requirements.

Master's Degree Students may attend either part-time or full-time. Program duration depends upon how many courses students take per quarter. Students who attend part-time and take two credits per quarter can complete the program in two years. A full-time student taking three or four courses per quarter can complete the degree in one year and four months. Professionals with extensive career experience who want to try out the program before committing to the full degree may apply for certificate/non-degree status. They will be eligible to take up to five courses from the MSLOC core course offerings and electives before they will be required to complete the degree application and enroll under degree status. All courses completed during the certificate/non-degree program apply toward the degree. |
