Global Thought Leader Roundtable

The Global Employee: Defining the Workforce of the Future

A key challenge for higher education is not whether to engage with globalization but how to engage with it.  Students must be equipped with the necessary competencies to be successful in today’s global economy where the ability to synthesize, create and innovate is the currency that matters.

In response, a team of MSLOC graduate students created a Global Thought Leader Roundtable to bring together thought leaders from multinational companies, consulting firms, non-profit organizations, MSLOC faculty and alumni, representatives of internationally focused Northwestern University departments and other academic institutions. The Roundtable was held on Friday, May 16, at Northwestern University.

The Roundtable was designed to meet the following objectives:
  • Provide a unique forum for discussion, analysis and exchange of ideas among business professionals, policy makers and leading academic experts, around current global trends, opportunities, threats and needed core competencies for students and the workforce to go global
  • Identify successful global business practices, structures and technology
  • Define the global competencies and training that are necessary to develop a “global employee”
  • Catalyze new interactions and relationships between roundtable participants that will serve as a means for them to gain valuable insight and information about the global economy
