Steve Frederick (BS04) of White Bear Lake, Minn., spent four weeks in Tanzania, researching educational accessibility for orphans. He climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, as part of a fundraiser for the Chicago-based Global Alliance for Africa. He raised $5,000 for the nonprofit organization, which provides food, shelter and education to children orphaned by HIV/AIDS in Kenya, Liberia and Tanzania. Frederick, a social policy major, also had received an undergraduate research grant and a grant from the Program of African Studies to support his project during his senior year.
