Mary and Jim Nelson Start Fellowship
Education in environmental science is a special concern for Mary Nelson (BS67) and Jim Nelson of Ada, Michigan. The founding supporters of the Goodwillie Environmental School in Grand Rapids, they have extended their support to SESP's reform efforts in environmental science education. The Kinship Environmental Education Fellowship will support a graduate student in the Learning Sciences program who is studying environmental education.

Wilkinsons Support Work in Education
When Frances Wilkinson (BS51) was growing up, her family ran the North Shore School, a preK–8 private school in Chicago, and her interest in education took root. Later she became a teacher and principal at the school. Recently she and her husband, David, a 1950 graduate of Northwestern, made a gift in support of the School of Education and Social Policy and specifically the work of professor P. Lindsay Chase-Lansdale related to early childhood education.

Wiley (BS55) of Arlington, Va., former Federal Communications Commission chairman and founding partner of Wiley Rein LLP, received a First Amendment Award from the Radio and Television News Directors Foundation for his contributions to the field of communications and his role in the development of high-definition television.

		Diane Humphrey (BS56) of Bluffton, Ind., was recently recognized as Wells County's Citizen of the Year 2008 for her philanthropic contributions to the Bluffton community

		Patrick Bresnan (MA62) of Los Gatos, Calif., is the author of the widely used college text Awakening: An Introduction to the History of Eastern Thought.

		Anne Fitzgerald O'Neill (BS68) of Portland, Ore., was named a certified association executive by the American Society of Association Executives. She works for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' Solid-State Circuits Society, a global professional association, where she has served as executive director for 10 years.

		Henry Bangser (MS71, PhD77) of Glenview is CEO at Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates executive search firm, which serves public school districts.

		Cynthia Drew Barnes (MS71) of Chicago is chief empowerment officer of Learning for Change, a Chicago-based organizational improvement and change management consulting firm.

		Robert Gundlach (MS72) of Evanston, Ill., served as Northwestern's interim athletic director. Gundlach, who joined the faculty after receiving his PhD from Northwestern in 1977, is founding director of the Writing Program in Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. He has served as Northwestern's faculty Athletics representative to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Big Ten Conference.

		Michael Kahn (MS75) of St. Louis, an attorney, author of the Rachel Gold series of legal thrillers and adjunct professor at the Washington University School of Law, joined the St. Louis office of law firm Bryan Cave LLP as a partner.

		Daryl Unnasch (PhD75) of Tampa, Fla., is the new head of school at Bayshore Christian School.

		Ann "Tanny" Crane (BS78) of New Albany, Ohio, was renamed to her post as chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland.

		Chris (McKiernan) Castino(BS81) of Northfield, Ill., is president of Castino Painting and Services. A former teacher, she volunteers with her local school district and was recently named the "Role Model of the Year" for her community service.

		Jaime Kalfus (BS85) of New York joined the Bravo Group, part of the Young & Rubicam Brands division of the WPP Group, as chief insights officer.

		Christopher Powell (BS90) of Knoxville, executive vice president for human resources at Scripps Networks, was profiled by Ebony magazine as an individual who "is moving onward and upward."

		David Harris (BS91) of Ithaca, N.Y., who received his PhD from Northwestern in sociology, has been named vice provost at Cornell University. He also holds the post of vice provost for social sciences.

		Carlin Johnson Politzer (BS92) of Redwood City, Calif., is the community school coordinator for Taft Community School, a public elementary school.

		Lawrence Weinberg (MS92) of Hillside, N.J., is the author of a recently published book, Religious Charter Schools: Legalities and Practicalities.

		Lara Schwartz Moretti (BS94) of Philadelphia is a supervisor of family support services at the Gift of Life Donor Program, the organ and tissue donation and transplant network of eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware.

		Aileen Laudau (MS95) of Oak Park, Ill., has returned with her family to the Chicago area after living in Boston and Sarasota. She is teaching kindergarten and serving as a student support specialist.

		Brandon Fleisher (MA97) of Littleton, Colo., was hired by Regis Learning Solutions as vice president.

		Will McIntosh (BS97) of Dallas is vice president of information technology at Bear Stearns. He specializes in business process reengineering and project management.

		Eric Brown (MS99) of Chicago, a science teacher at Evanston Township High School, was selected by the Illinois State Board of Education to be on the State Teacher Certification Board. The 19-member board advises the State Superintendent of Education about certification issues.

		Stephanie Mihalas (BS01) of Baltimore is doing her predoctoral internship training at the Kennedy Krieger Institute at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She completed her coursework in child and school psychology at the University of South Florida.

		Lauren Eslicker Bingham (BS02) of Tulsa is a research interviewer at Laureate Psychiatric Clinic and Hospital. She is working on a longitudinal eating disorder study.

		Chasda Martin (BS02) of Chicago is currently working as a resource coordinator for the MGR Foundation to direct a community schools project funded by the Polk Bros Foundation at the DuSable campus in Chicago's Bronzeville community.

		Emily Butler (BS03) of Perry Hall, Md., recently began serving as the director of planning and performance for the newly created Office of the State Superintendent for Education in the District of Columbia. She manages the EdStat program and the office's strategic planning efforts.

		Julie Graham Levin (BS03) of New York teaches English at the Talented and Gifted School for Young Scholars in East Harlem. She has been chosen a MetLife Fellow at the Teachers Network Leadership Institute, which honors exemplary public school teachers across the country.

		Stefani DeLuca (PhD03) of Baltimore, who is an assistant professor of sociology at Johns Hopkins University, received the William T. Grant Scholars Award, a major fellowship for early-career scholars conducting high-quality research.

		Adam Case (BS05) of Chicago is the new chief of customer communications for the Chicago Transit Authority.

		Nancy Dunham (MS05) of Alexandria, Va., a graduate of the Higher Education Administration and Policy Program, now works at George Mason University as assistant director of student services in the Graduate School of Public Policy.

		Lori Schwanhausser (BS05) of Philadelphia is interning at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, doing neuropsychology assessment and therapy in the physical rehabilitation unit. She is also beginning a research project in sports psychology and coaching the men's and women's swim team at LaSalle University, where she is working toward her doctorate in clinical psychology.

		Genna Cohen (BS07) of Washington, D.C., is a health research assistant at the Center for Studying Health System Change.

		Molly Day (BS07) of Chicago is executive director of campusCATALYST, a nonprofit organization she co-founded that directs college students as future leaders in business and community development.
