IIT Design Expert to Lecture at Annenberg January 19

It is tough leading a company today when the initiatives you are expected to control are buffeted by forces that are changing all the time. Dr. Patrick Whitney, Director of the Institute of Design at Illinois Institute of Technology, will speak on January 19 about new design methods that can help companies understand customers and create innovations.

Whitney's talk, "New Frameworks of Design," which is sponsored by the SESP Learning Sciences program, will be held from noon to 1:20 p.m. in 345 Annenberg Hall. He will focus on the four aspects of design knowledge that are most valuable to companies.

"The good news is that there are new methods emerging from the field of design that companies are using to help them understand customer patterns and create remarkable innovations that exceed expectations," says Whitney. "Design's new body of knowledge has expanded the discipline's deliveries far beyond the usual well-crafted products and communications."

Whitney, who is the Steelcase/Robert C. Pew Professor of Design at IIT, lectures and writes about making technology more humane, as well as how design informs business strategies.
