Brown Bag Talk: ″Improving Learning Results by Minimizing Forgetting″

Learning interventions don't add value if learners forget everything they learn. Fortunately, the learning research provides insights on how to combat forgetting. Will Thalheimer, PhD, president of Work-Learning Research will summarize this research with a focus on practical recommendations for learning design.

Thalheimer will present a brown bag talk on "Improving Learning Results by Minimizing Forgetting" on Tuesday, October 17, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in 347 Annenberg Hall. Remote participants can join in online at http://ctd.breezecentral.com/brownbag.

Thalheimer will also be available to answer questions regarding the challenges of sharing research with novice and experienced learning practitioners (instructional designers, trainers, e-learning developers, and training-and-development executives).

A learning-and-performance consultant and researchedr, Thalheimer specializes in helping clients build optimally effective learning interventions. Dr. Thalheimer has worked in the field since 1985 as an instructional designer, simulation architect, project manager, product manager, trainer, and consultant. He founded Work-Learning Research in 1998 to provide research-based consulting services, workshops, and learning audits. Thalheimer's PhD is in Human Learning from Columbia University. Thalheimer speaks regularly at national and international conferences, often receiving "best-session-of-the-conference" evaluations. His "Will at Work Learning" blog (www.willatworklearning.com ) and research-to-practice white papers provide information backed by research and vetted with practical wisdom.

Online particpants should have a headset to use audio. Please log in a few minutes early to be sure your audio is working properly. If you will be participating online, please RSVP to kjona@northwestern.edu so we can send you a reminder email right before the event.
