- Teacher Networks Conference Convenes at Northwestern November 8
SESP researchers, along with colleagues at Michigan State University, the Spencer Foundation, the Carnegie Foundations and the National Science Foundation will host the Teacher Networks Conference at Northwestern on November 8.

At the Bernice Neugarten Memorial Lecture on October 20, "Cracks in the American Dream? Rethinking Careers in the 21st Century," Phyllis Moen, the McKnight Presidential Chair in Sociology at the University of Minnesota, examined the need for restructuring the world of work.

SESP honored the 2006 winners of the Golden Apple Award for Teaching Excellence at a reception in Annenberg Hall on October 26, and the award winners shared advice about teaching with SESP students.
11/13/06 - Social Policy Senior Lauren Parnell Named Lincoln Laureate
Senior Lauren Parnell, a SESP social policy major, received the Student Laureate Award for 2006 from the Lincoln Academy of Illinois, an award that recognizes excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities.
11/14/06 - $3 Million NSF Grant Supports New Method to Teach K8 Science
A University of Michigan and Northwestern University-led research initiative has received a $3 million grant from the National Science Foundation to develop a learning progression for improving elementary and middle school science teaching.
11/28/06 - LS Alum's Study Finds Patients Don't Understand Medicine Labels
Many people don't fully understand the label instructions on their prescription medication, according to a new study of low-income patients by Michael Wolf, Ph.D., assistant professor of medicine at Feinberg School of Medicine and an alumnus of SESP's Learning Sciences Program.
