Alex Sims Wins Coro Fellowship

Alex Sims

Senior Alexandra Sims is a winner of the Coro Fellowship, which provides an intensive nine-month public affairs program in one of seven U.S. cities. She will be located in St. Louis.

The Coro Fellows Program trains civic leaders through a program structured around six field assignments - working with a government agency, a business, a political campaign, a labor union, a media organization, and a non-profit organization. The goal is to provide fellows with the kind of experiential training in public affairs that traditional academic education cannot provide, and to prepare them for leadership roles in public service.

Sims says, "I applied to the CORO Fellowship Program because it directly aligns with my sense that in order to meet many of our societal challenges, we will need to approach them with a comprehensive, interdependent focus. Public policy, social advocacy, government, the private sector - all have to be involved."

Because the Coro Fellows Program will allow her to spend three months in each of six sectors, Sims believes that she will be uniquely prepared to earn an MBA "that matches my interest and eventually launches me into a career of public good," she explains. She is one of 60 fellows selected nationwide.

Along with other leadership roles during the 2009-10 school year, Sims served as president of Promote 360. This SESP student organization is dedicated to empowering minority young people.
