
Carter is a psychology major and a member of the football team. “I’m very excited to start at Northwestern,” he says. “It’s one of the best academic schools in the country, and it has a connection to Chicago, which is where I want to live for the rest of my life.” He also described the football team and coaches as “a perfect fit.”
Strolling around campus over the summer, Carter saw the young kids outside in their Center for Talent Development classes. “I remembered what it was like walking in their shoes,” he says. Project Excite gave him an advanced look at science and math beyond what his elementary school provided, he says, so that when he got to high school “nothing was really new.” Project Excite provides sustained enrichment through eighth grade with classes on Saturdays and during the summer.
