Eleven School of Education and Social Policy undergraduates were members of the women's academically stellar lacrosse team, which reached the NCAA quarterfinals in their fourth straight Tournament appearance.

The team was led by SESP's Shelby Fredericks and Selena Lasota, two of the best female lacrosse players in the U.S. Other SESP students on the team include Nicole Beardsley, Liza Elder, Kate Paliotta, Riley Johnston, Meghan Duffy, Ivy Arlia, Claris Smith, Julie Krupnick, and Sara Szynal.

Off the field, the women’s lacrosse team boasted a program record 26 student-athletes who received Academic all-Big Ten Awards, the highest in the Big Ten, and the most for any Northwestern sports team.

It’s the eighth straight year Northwestern University has accumulated 200-plus Academic All-Big Ten awards. The Wildcats finished the 2017-18 year with a total of 227 student-athletes receiving the recognition.

In data released by the Conference, Northwestern totaled 84 spring and at-large Academic All-Big Ten recognition the fourth-straight year with at least 80 such honors in the spring.

Eight Northwestern sports are eligible for spring awards. To be eligible for an Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letter winners in at least their second academic year at their institution carrying a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
