You may apply directly to Northwestern's NU-TEACH program to become a NU-TEACH Intern. As part of the NU-TEACH application, you may also apply for a NU-TEACH fellowship, as we have a limited number of fellowships available each year for NU-TEACH teachers. (Due to the limited number of fellowships available, we must limit those fellowships to applicants who are accepted directly by Northwestern University into the NU-TEACH program as a NU-TEACH intern.)
Alternatively, you may apply through our partner organization, the Alain Locke Initiative, formerly the Inner-City Teaching Corps.
Required exams
NU-TEACH, as mandated by the State of Illinois, requires you to take and pass the following Illinois Certification Testing System (ICTS) exams as a condition of acceptance into the program:- ALL NU-TEACH applicants must pass the Illinois State Board of Education's ICTS Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP) Test.
- Secondary math or science applicants must also pass the appropriate ICTS content test(s) in math, biology, chemistry and/or physics.
- Elementary applicants must also pass the ICTS Elementary/Middle Schools 110 content test.
Toward the end of the NU-TEACH course of study, you will be required to take and pass the State of Illinois Assessment of Professional Teaching (APT) content exam.
Application deadlines
Due to the volume of applications we anticipate, and the tight time frames with respect to Illinois Certification Testing System (ICTS) test dates, we have two application deadlines. The first is for applicants who prefer early acceptance.- Early application deadline - January 16, 2012
- Final application deadline - March 16, 2012
