Biography
Joan Lampert has been a school-based practitioner for 29 years both in Michigan and Illinois where she has coordinated prevention and intervention efforts at the secondary level. She has also served as an adjunct instructor at National-Louis University and Northern Illinois University, teaching classes on critical issues in curriculum development, social foundations of education, quantitative and qualitative research methods, and risk and prevention. Furthermore, she has served a social work field supervisor for the University of Michigan, Loyola University-Chicago and The University of Illinois as well as student teacher field supervisor in social studies for Boston University. Her dissertation, "Voices and Visons: Adolescent Girls' Experiences as Targets, Bullies, and Bystanders," was designated the winner of the outstanding research of the year award.

Courses
Teach Ed 359 Methods: Social Science These methods courses analyze the literature and research related to the subject area and teaching methodology.  In addition, they examine the development of learning experiences, methods, and educational techniques appropriate to the middle and high school levels.  Concurrent registration in 341 and 378 or 379 required.
MS_ED 404 Adolescent Development in Social Contexts Adolescent development in its differing social contexts, with particular attention to schools, families and peer groups. By mixing social science with philosophy, the class explores the types of environments that best enhance growth and development during this stage of life.
MS_ED 403 Childhood and Early Adolescent Development and Learning Overview of developmental concepts from birth into adolescence. The interplay of biological invariants, individual differences, and cultural experiences; relationships among cognitive, social, and cultural aspects of development and learning; major developmental theories and contexts of the construction of these theories; implications for teaching and learning.
MS_ED 429 Hlth & Phys Devl This course is to examine the physical development of children from early infancy through adolescence.  Particular attention is paid to the school age child and to those strategies that can be used by school personnel at the classroom and building levels to enhance the physical well-being of children
Teach Ed 329 Health & Physical Development Interaction and interdependence of physical well-being, mental and emotional health, and the surrounding social environment.  Topical areas covered for secondary education studetns completing state certification requirements.
