Biography
Eugene Y. Lowe, Jr. serves as Assistant to the President and holds a faculty appointment in the Religion Department as Senior Lecturer. He also teaches regularly in the Masters Program in Higher Education Administration and Policy in the School of Education. His administrative duties include providing advice and support to the President in a number of areas, including community and diversity in the University and intercollegiate athletics. During 1997-1998, he served as Co-Chair of the Northwestern University Task Force on Underrepresented Minorities. In 1999-2000, he chaired a faculty administrative group focused on enhancing a culture of integrity in intellegiate athletics. He also represents Northwestern externally in a number of capacities and serves on the boards of Berea College and Seabury-Western Theological Seminary. Before coming to Northwestern, he served for ten years as Dean of Students at Princeton University.

Courses
MS_ED 467 History & Philosophy of Higher Education This course will survey and assess the evolution of American Higher Education from the founding of Harvard College to present patterns of virtual and distance learning. Historical and institutional contexts for this development include consideration of the role of religion, government, and the private sector in shaping the demand and provision of elite and accessible forms of higher education opportunity.
MS_ED 460 Proseminar in Higher Education Class discussion concentrates on current and ongoing issues in the American postsecondary educational system. Students are introduced to areas of professional endeavor within the field (enrollment management, student affairs, etc.), explore major sources of information about various areas of higher-education administration, and have the opportunity to meet higher-education professionals.
