Biography
Monica Ko is a second-year doctoral student in the Learning Sciences program. She came to Northwestern after teaching high school science in Camden, New Jersey, for two years through the Teach for America program. Her two years of teaching in an underserved urban district have motivated her to understand how to close the educational achievement gap in these communities. Currently, she works with Brian Reiser on the IQWST project. She hopes to understand how teachers interpret and utilize the tools of reform-based science (i.e., standards, curriculum and assessments) and, in turn, how this understanding could impact the creation of future policies. Monica graduated from Northwestern in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in biological sciences with a concentration in neuroscience.
