Research InterestsAs a researcher and former high school teacher, I am interested in ways that teachers can draw on and make explicit students’ “funds of knowledge” and everyday, out-of school interpretive practices, and then leverage those practices in the teaching of reading and writing. I design instructional models that support reading and writing about literary texts, including films, ads, and songs, as well as poetry and prose. I am currently designing affect-based strategies to support students in identifying and connecting key details in texts, and constructing meaningful thematic inferences.
