Biography
Ellen Shearer is the William F. Thomas Professor in the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and director of the school’s Washington Program, Medill News Service. She also is co-director of the school’s new National Security Journalism initiative. Shearer is a board member of the Garrett-Medill Center for Religion and the News Media, contributing writer for the American Society of Newspaper Editors’ Local News Handbook, and former editor of New York’s Newsday. A full-time resident of Washington, she is an invaluable resource to students in the Summer Field Studies program.
