Advisors

One of the most valued and unique aspects of SESP is the advising staff, housed in the Office of Student Affairs, on the first floor of Annenberg Hall. The Office of Student Affairs serves as a home base for SESP students. This is the place to find information about classes and special academic opportunities, to check the student mailbox, and to hang out and be a part of the SESP community.

An advisor is assigned to each student according to concentration and works with him or her throughout the undergraduate years at Northwestern. Each advisor is available to help students with a variety of academic issues, including course selection, career advisement, development of the concentration or specialization, scheduling and academic performance. In addition, the advisor is a great source of information about special academic programs, internships, curriculum, and faculty research and projects. SESP has been lauded on a consistent basis for undergraduate student satisfaction with advisement.

Students are encouraged to get to know their advisor and to work closely to develop a course work plan that will facilitate future professional goals. The Office of Student Affairs is an important resource for students, and advisors are their closest allies during their years at Northwestern. Come by for information, an opinion, an advocate, a form, a phone number or just to say hello.

Students are encouraged to meet with their advisor at least once each quarter to ensure they are fulfilling their graduation requirements in a timely manner. These meetings are an opportunity to discuss course work selection, possible areas of specialization and resources for career and graduate opportunities. Failure to meet with the advisor at least once each quarter may result in a "hold" placed on a student's registration.
