Annenberg Hall is a wireless zone
Persons who use a computer that has a wireless card compatible with University standards (this includes Apple Airport Cards and all 802.11B-compliant cards) will be able to access the network from anywhere in the building without having to plug into a network port. Regular network ports will continue to be available for the wire-bound. SESP highly recommends that all laptop purchases include a wireless card – an extra expense of less than $100 for base models, and an included item for intermediate and high-end computers. Access to the wireless network will be via the University’s Virtual Private Network, the software and installation/operation instructions for which can be found at: http://www.tss.northwestern.edu/wireless.
The Tarry Center for Collaborative Teaching and Learning
At the heart of the 15,500-square-foot center, which occupies the entire third floor of Annenberg Hall, are the Teaching and Learning Studios, two 1,500-square-foot classrooms equipped with extensive multimedia software systems. Simulating real-world classroom situations, these studios are used regularly by researchers, Northwestern students, in-service teachers and visiting educators to test new teaching concepts.
Named for Edwina S. Tarry and the late George W. Tarry, the center is used as a training facility for elementary and secondary teachers with whom SESP researchers collaborate. It is also used to study and demonstrate the best practices in undergraduate and graduate teaching at Northwestern. The center serves as a national model for using advanced technology to develop and support innovative instruction.
