We are proud to announce that two MS in Higher Education Administration and Policy (MSHE) students were recently awarded the competitive Campus Life Award and the School of Education and Social Policy (SESP) Alumni Leadership Award.

Current student Joanne Kang received a Campus Life Award in the social justice category for her work as a graduate assistant in Northwestern’s Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA), in which she made outstanding contributions to Asian American, Pacific Islander and Desi American (APIDA) student life. Kang’s award was presented at the annual Wildcat Excellence Awards ceremony in June at which over 50 students and organizations were recognized. Kang stated, “I want to continue dialogue about Asian American student identity throughout my career and remain involved in social justice work. I plan to keep learning and contributing as much as I can.”

Recently graduated student Khaled Ismail was awarded the SESP Alumni Leadership Award at the annual SESP Graduate Convocation for his contributions to campus inclusion and social justice at Northwestern. During his time as an MSHE student, Ismail served as a graduate assistant in MSA and Social Justice Education (SJE). Ismail was honored for his contributions to community building in conjunction with Northwestern’s Black House, coordination of Black History Month, advising of several student organizations and support of Northwestern’s Sustained Dialogue program, among many other contributions toward a more equitable campus climate. Ismail will begin a full-time role at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a Social Justice Education Specialist.

Please join us in congratulating the accomplishments and contributions of Joanne Kang and Khaled Ismail!
