Campus Inclusion and Multicultural Student Affairs

By MSHE staff

Campus Inclusion and Multicultural Student Affairs Northwestern University's MS in Higher Education Administration and Policy (MSHE) program recently hosted two campus inclusion and multicultural student affairs-related events: a discussion in partnership with Northwestern's Campus Inclusion and Community team and a webinar featuring multicultural student affairs leaders

Lesley-Ann Brown-Henderson, executive director of the Office for Campus Inclusion and Community, and Michele Enos, assistant director of social justice education led a conversation on  language, identity, and social justice.

Afterwards, students reflected on their roles in social justice and campus inclusion, and they gained tools to support their professional practice in these areas.

MSHE also hosted a “Careers in Multicultural Student Affairs” event, in partnership with NASPA, Student Affairs Professionals in Higher Education.

The panel discussion featured two multicultural student affairs leaders: Sara Furr, director of the Center for Identity, Inclusion and Social Change at DePaul University; and Khaled Ismail (MS16) , social justice educator for the Multicultural Student Center at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Students learned how educational professionals, both inside and outside of multicultural student affairs, can engage in social justice, diversity and inclusion issues.

"Not all MSHE students plan to work in multicultural student affairs, but through this dialogue, they learned how to create more inclusive environments within all functional areas in higher education," said Elyse Yarnell, a current MSHE student and event facilitator.
