Northwestern University’s Office of the Provost recently promoted several instructors and alumni of the Higher Education Administration and Policy Program (MSHE), including Jake Julia, Andrea Bueschel, and Marianna Kepka.
The Provost’s office is charged with enhancing services and support in key areas to all faculty, staff and students. In their new roles, Julia, Bueschel and Kepka will be actively engaged with a wider range of groups and individuals across the community, while developing and managing strategic priorities and emerging opportunities.

Jake Julia, a long-time MSHE faculty member, assumed the position of vice provost for administration and chief of staff on December 1, 2017. In his new role, Jake will focus on daily operations and strategic goals. Jake has led numerous major change initiatives across the University, including the integration of Student Financial Services; the restructuring of administrative functions within The Graduate School; the replacement of the former GRATS program with the Research Assistants Scholarship (RAS) program; the creation, with Human Resource Development, of the new department chairs leadership development process; and multiple other efforts within and across Northwestern's schools and central support units. Andrea Bueschel, a former MSHE instructor, was appointed into a newly configured role as associate provost for strategy and policy on December 1, 2017. In this new role, Andrea is responsible for overseeing a range of programmatic, operational, and policy areas designed to support faculty at all stages of their careers. Here is Andrea’s profile.
Marianna Kepka (MS07) was appointed associate vice president of change management on December 2017. In the Office of the Provost, Marianna directs initiatives that cross units/schools, in particular leading efforts in online and blended learning and coordination of the University’s professional master’s programs. She engages with leaders in schools and units across the University to analyze, develop, and implement change in order to improve strategy, operations, and organizational processes. Michael Mills, an MSHE instructor, has been associate provost for university enrollment at Northwestern University since July 2005. He is responsible for admissions, financial aid and the registrar's office at the undergraduate level and coordinates those same functions in the graduate and professional schools. Celina Flowers (MS17) is the assistant provost for faculty. She oversees the implementation of policies, programs, and initiatives that are designed to support faculty excellence at Northwestern.
