Center for Talent Development (CTD), a part of Northwestern’s School of Education and Social Policy, is an accredited learning center and research facility with a mission to promote the talent development of academically advanced learners (age 4 through grade 12), conduct research on talent development, and provide evidence-based support and guidance to families and educators. For over 35 years, CTD has served as a national leader in the field of gifted education, implementing research-driven methods of teaching and learning. Under the direction of the Associate Director and Program Coordinator, the Program Assistant helps implement CTD’s strategic mission and executes administrative, marketing, communications, and public relations tasks. The Program Assistant also participates in events and outreach activities and produces written and electronic communications, particularly social media. This may also include drafting & typing letters, reports, charts, graphs, etc. using word processing, spreadsheet, database, &/or presentation software; basic bookkeeping; screening calls & visitors; preparing agendas & making arrangements including travel, etc. for meetings & special events; &/or managing supervisor's &/or dept calendar. This position requires occasional travel and evening or weekend work.

Please note:  Position is required to work some weekends in lieu of normal work week schedule


Specific Responsibilities:

 Documents & Databases

  • Prepares documents, including but not limited to, marketing, communications, and public relations materials, focusing on consistency in messaging and branding
  • Proofs for spelling & grammar. 
  • Enters information into spreadsheets &/or databases
  • Compiles routine reports, statistics, tables, charts, etc. from readily available information (i.e., web analytics, survey results, e-mail blast tracking, social media metrics, etc.)
  • Maintains materials inventory and reorders as necessary


  • Coordinates content maintenance of websites &/or blogs.
  • Trains &/or assists faculty &/or staff in updating their websites &/or blogs. Provides training to staff in using the web site and the technological resources (cameras, projectors, etc.)
  • Liaison to marketing and communications and school and family services to assist with website, blogs, social media, etc. as related to pathways advising and admissions
  • Reviews and edits CTD web pages and troubleshoots web related issues
  • Maintains and creates content for social networking sites, reviews content posted to pages, and troubleshoots issues


  • Coordinates calendar - supervisor's &/or dept. Keeps conference and advertising schedules, handles registrations, packs and ships materials
  • Coordinates events which may include scheduling rooms &/or guest speaker & arranging for routine materials, technology & refreshments. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2 years of administrative support or other relevant experience required.


Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

  • Intermediate knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database software programs is required.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or communications
  • Experience implementing social media activities and best practices for organizations

  • Excellent written communication skills and customer service/problem solving
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with web site development and maintenance
  • Advanced skills in the use of computers, databases, and related software applications (bulk email, online surveys)
  • Customer service experience
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports
  • Ability to relate positively and effectively with a diverse staff and customer base
  • Intermediate knowledge of spreadsheet and database software programs
