Christine Li-Grining (MA03, PhD05), a recent HDSP graduate, was named one of five winners of the Spencer Foundation Exemplary Dissertation Award intended to "provide the research community with examples of exemplary scholarly work by young researchers.″

John Belcaster (BA86) and William Bultman (BA93) are among the 10 teachers recognized by the Golden Apple Foundation as Teachers of Distinction for 2007.

Civic Education Project, headquartered at SESP's Center for Talent Development, runs intensive service-learning programs for high schoolers both over spring break and summer. New locations have been added for both in 2007.

Northwestern University's School of Education and Social Policy (SESP) ranks number seven in the nation, according to the new ranking of graduate schools of education by U.S. News & World Report.

Sam Dyson, a Chicago physics teacher who is a facilitator in the School of Education and Social Policy's NU-TEACH alternative certification program, was selected as one of 10 winners of the Golden Apple Award for Teaching Excellence in 2007.

A new grant from the Alumnae of Northwestern University will support research into what makes acceleration effective for academically talented minority students.

David Kane, a senior social policy major from Foster City, California, was awarded a 2007 Congressional Hunger Fund Fellowship, which provides both grassroots and public policy experience.
5/22/07 - SESP Sophomore Hilary Bowen Named MVP of Champ Lacrosse Team
SESP sophomore Hilary Bowen was Most Valuable Player of the championship Northwestern women's lacrosse team that won the NCAA championship on May 27. Hannah Nielsen was named a 2007 All-American.

School of Education and Social Policy alumna Edith Howard Bostic (BS74) addressed SESP graduates on June 16 at Cahn Auditorium. One hundred fifty-seven students received degrees.
6/20/07 - Vivian Wong Presents Preschool Research at Capitol Hill Briefing
At a policy briefing on June 18 in Washington, D.C., doctoral student Vivian Wong presented the findings of her study with Professor Thomas Cook of five state programs. Their research found that states' programs had positive effects on children's print awareness, early mathematics and receptive vocabulary skills.
