Jeff Merrell to Address Knowledge Management Forum

Jeff Merrell
Jeff Merrell, associate director of the Master of Science in Learning and Organizational Change (MSLOC) program at Northwestern University’s School of Education and Social Policy, will share insights about graduate education in knowledge management at the October 11 meeting of KM Chicago.

For the past 10 years, knowledge management has been an integral part of the  curriculum for the MSLOC program, and Merrell has observed what happens when graduate students — all experienced business and not-for-profit managers — think about knowledge management in connection with organizational learning and change.

Merrell will make a case for the value of knowledge management as a discipline and discuss its role in the greater organizational system. He will also describe how the MSLOC program has used collaboration technology to advance its own learning and knowledge sharing environment.

At MSLOC Merrell teaches the program's organizational knowledge management course and is faculty adviser for student practicum projects. As associate director of Center for Learning and Organizational Change (CLOC), he oversees the development of new practicum projects with for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.

Merrell’s professional background includes experience as both a consultant and corporate leader in organizational learning and knowledge management. He is founder of Purple Line Associates, a consultancy and research practice established in 2001. His consulting work includes projects for global leaders in the pharmaceutical and retail industries as well as not-for-profit and federal government organizations.

Merell himself is a 2006 graduate of the MSLOC program.

KM Chicago is an organization for those interested in knowledge management and in building connections between knowledge managers and their communities. The organization offers presentations on management topics, trends and systems, holding regular forums on the second Tuesday of each month.

Merrell’s talk will be at 5:30 p.m. on October 11 at Factiva, One South Wacker Drive, 22 floor,  in Chicago. Web conferencing is available at
