Seven School of Education and Social Policy faculty and staff members were named to the 2011-12 Faculty and Administrator Honor Roll. Based on student voting, Associated Student Government (ASG) selected Dorie Blesoff, Alissa Chung, Danny Cohen, David Figlio, Meg Kreuser, Susan Olson and Megan Redfearn for this year’s honor roll.
Neil Mehta, ASG Academic Vice President, said in a letter to the honor roll winners, “At a university where exceptional teachers are the norm, your students have chosen you as the best of the best.” Following are the SESP faculty and staff members on the 2011-12 Honor Roll:
Dorie Blesoff
Dorie Blesoff is an adjunct instructor in the learning and organizational change program. She teaches Learning Organizations for Complex Environments as well as graduate-level courses. Blesoff brings to students her experience from running an independent consulting practice that specializes in leadership development and designing and facilitating sustainable strategic change.
Alissa Levy Chung
In addition to teaching, Alissa Levy Chung is a clinical psychologist, working with children and adolescents with a wide range of behavioral and emotional challenges. She has expertise in the areas of infant mental health and relationship-based interventions, and she has worked extensively with adolescent parents and children in foster care. Her past research focused on intergenerational continuities in parenting. She teaches The Counseling Process, Developmental Psychopathology, Human Development and a practicum seminar.
Meg Kreuser
Meg Kreuser is an academic adviser for all undergraduate SESP students with a concentration in secondary teaching. As the manager of teacher certification and licensure, she is the teacher certification adviser to all students at Northwestern University seeking teacher certification.
Danny Cohen
Danny M. Cohen is a learning scientist and a graduate of the SESP doctoral program in Learning Sciences. His focus is on Holocaust education and the interdependency of victimhoods, and his doctoral dissertation was on "Historical Narratives in Tension: Holocaust Educators' Perceptions of Victimhood." Before the opening of the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, he created and facilitated the pedagogical track of the museum's inaugural docent training program. Cohen teaches Program Development and Implementation and a practicum seminar.
David Figlio
David Figlio is the Orrington Lunt Professor of Education and Social Policy and the director of the Institute for Policy Research at Northwestern University. His research on education and social policy includes influential work on school accountability, standards, welfare policy, and policy design. An economist, Figlio has served on numerous national education task forces and panels, and has advised several U.S. states and nations on education policy. He teaches Economics of Education Policy and Economics of Social Policy.
Susan Olson
Susan Olson is the assistant dean for student affairs in the School of Education and Social Policy. She is also the adviser for students majoring in human development and psychological services, and she serves as the administrative coordinator of the Senior Honors Program.
Megan Redfearn
Megan Redfearn is the adviser for the SESP undergraduate students with a concentration in learning and organizational change. She is also the coordinator of the Learning Sciences Master of Arts Program. Herself a SESP graduate, Redfearn completed a master’s degree in the Master of Science in Learning and Organizational Change Program in 2012.
