Students in secondary education are encouraged to teach for a year or two before beginning a master's degree. The rationale is that with experience, you will have a better sense of what you want from your degree. Some students may choose to get a degree in education and specialize in curriculum, ESL, or pursue an administrative license required of a department head, vice-principal or principal. Other students may decide to take additional courses in their subject field.
Other students will decide to pursue a master's degree immediately upon graduating. Those students are encouraged to speak with their academic advisor, Office of Fellowships or the certification manager.
