School of Education & Social Policy

Wildcat Welcome

Dear Incoming SESP Students,

I am delighted to welcome you, as an incoming member of the Class of 2013, to the School of Education and Social Policy (SESP).

The year ahead is going to be a time filled with excitement, change, growth, challenge and fun. I believe that you will be glad to know that the advising staff in the SESP Student Affairs Office is prepared and eager to work with you as you face the opportunities and transitions of college life at Northwestern.

Wildcat Welcome (WW) is the beginning of the important partnership between you and your academic advisor. Through these web pages and the packet you received in the mail, you will find vital SESP information that will assist you in preparing for an outstanding first year at Northwestern. During the orientation to SESP, we’ll be talking about academics, opportunities, responsibilities and goals. You will receive a personalized schedule when you arrive on campus that includes all of the University events that will take place during WW.

WW is still a few months ahead, and I’m sure you’re hoping to "get a jump start" on the year.  Please take a few moments to complete a survey.  You can either complete it on paper and return it in the envelope sent to you, or take the survey online at  http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=694wtRd98RbDJqhpkur2Gg_3d_3d.

This summer, you can begin getting connected with our community online. I hope you will join the Facebook group New SESP Students to get to know your classmates and the Student Affairs staff.

I know that preparing for college can be both an exciting and daunting time. I want to reassure you that with our staff and peer advisors by your side, you will have an excellent experience at Northwestern, in particular, in the School of Education and Social Policy.

You may hear from other students who are enrolled in other Northwestern schools such as the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences (WCAS) that they are enrolling in freshman seminars over the summer. You do not need to worry about course enrollment at this time. At SESP, we wait until WW to work with you on an individual basis to select your classes. To assist with registration, we have already reserved space for you in some of our introductory courses.

In the weeks ahead, both your academic and peer advisor will contact you. If you have questions prior to hearing from them, please feel free to contact me.  Below you will find links to important forms and information for Wildcat Week.

Best wishes for the remainder of the summer. I look forward to meeting you on September 15.

Sincerely yours,
Susan Johnston Olson
Assistant Dean for Student Affairs
School of Education and Social Policy
