- Official GRE scores (no older than 5 years at time of matriculation) are required by the program.
- Undergraduate major/master’s degree: social science major preferred but not required.
- Course work background: social sciences recommended.
- Relevant research or experience: none specified.
- Importance of a multidisciplinary perspective, drawing on theory, methodology and research literatures from psychology, sociology, economics and political science.
- Application requires: statement of purpose, 2 letters of recommendation, official transcripts, application fee, and TOEFL scores (no older than 2 years) if English is not the native language of the applicant (except in certain circumstances).
- Other: writing sample recommended for application.
Except under unusual circumstances, students are accepted in HDSP for fall quarter matriculation only. Applicants planning to seek financial aid must meet the deadline of December 31 for the following fall.
Paper applications are no longer used at Northwestern. Instead our online application is avaiable after October 1 for the following fall matriculation.
