For elementary education and secondary education graduates, the placement rate is over 90 percent for those who are actively seeking jobs. Advanced teaching graduates are already practicing teachers, so they already have teaching jobs when they enter the program; completion of the master's degree normally leads to a salary increase. Similarly, most Higher Education Administration and Policy graduates entered the program with employment in the higher education field, although many are able to apply for new positions after graduation.
What placement services do you offer?
The MSEd program offers several placement services and resources for students. Our job placement coordinator, Dave Renz, compiles information about job openings and forwards this information to students via the MSEd listserv. Dave also puts together a resume book that is distributed to more than 450 elementary, middle and high schools. Any teacher education student may post their resume in this resume book. There is also an annual "Getting a Teaching Job" workshop that helps prepare students for interviewing for a teaching position. All of these services are free of charge for MSEd students.
We also encourage our students to work with the education liaison at Northwestern University's placement office, which has a full range of services. In addition, many of our students make important contacts during their internship experiences that lead toward job possibilities.
