HDSP Student Handbook

This student handbook details information about HDSP program requirements, including the core curriculum, trial research, course outline, and dissertation. It's arranged chronologically, beginning with what students should know before entering the program and taking them through a hypothetical five-year course program and what happens after graduation. The appendices expand on these topics with a list of professional conferences and fellowship opportunities, the annual Student Progress Report, and relevant courses outside of the department.

Funding

Our policy is to provide full tuition and an academic year stipend for five years, contingent on satisfactory progress towards the degree. Stipend levels may vary year-to-year but will never fall below The Graduate School's (TGS) base stipend level. Support may include fellowships, research assistantships, or graduate assistantships. Summer funding is available through The Graduate School, at the TGS base rate, and is contingent upon an approved proposal. In addition, as a graduate student at Northwestern, you are eligible to enroll in a health insurance plan that will receive 100 percent subsidization from The Graduate School.

Student Services Representatives

All graduate students have a student services representative through The Graduate School (TGS). Your student services representative can answer questions related to TGS: enrollment, degree deadline, residency, fellowships, teaching assistantships and paperwork that should be submitted for graduation. TGS recommends that student services inquiries be directed to gradservices@northwestern.edu.
