SELCON 2023

Integrating SEL in Classrooms and Schools: What's Next?

Friday April 28, 2023
Wolcott College Prep
524 N Wolcott Ave, Chicago, IL 60622
9 am to 3 pm CST

This conference will consist of a variety of presentations, workshops and reflective collaborative discussions. We will consider change and the transition from a survival mode and innovative moves towards thriving. Besides keynote presentations, smaller workshop sessions will explore how innovative strategies, staff and student engagement and programs at Wolcott College Prep and other schools in the area are reimagining SEL dispositions and skills.

Together, we will explore:

  • Student SEL skill development that is authentic to the classroom and a variety of content/ subject areas;
  • Connections between the development of these skills and students’ academic and personal success;
  • Reframing SEL with greater clarity of purpose and a collaborative team approach;
  • Providing opportunities for colleagues to engage in community reflection, networking, and collaboration.

Registration fee: $200 includes breakfast, lunch, snacks, and 6 PD hours

Teacher Leadership Pathways Project

Starts September 29th at 6 pm CST ONLINE via Zoom

This all virtual pilot Teacher Leadership cohort will run through the 2022-23 school year. The cohort will meet virtually once a quarter and will culminate in a job embedded practicum project that will showcase your impact and growth as a teacher leader. You will work with other emerging teacher leaders while being exposed to national experts and coached by experienced educators.

Teacher leaders who successfully complete the Pathways Project will receive a microcredential, along with building their leadership capacity and impact. A generous grant from the National Education Association and support from Northwestern University allows us to keep the cost to $499. We have found districts are supportive of professional development for their local teacher leaders, but limited scholarships are available.
