Fall Institutes for Educators 2022

Northwestern’s School of Education and Social Policy gives teachers cutting-edge skills through professional learning Institutes. We focus on advanced teaching topics. This fall, we are offering SEL in Action on Wednesday evenings, and Leading Experiential Learning on Thursdays. The institutes are taught online over ten weeks from September 20 - December 1. There are no meetings the week of Thanksgiving.

Participants can take the Institutes for graduate credit or for professional development hours only.

Professional Development

No application process; just register. Each Institute provides 30 professional development hours for $1,700. The fee is paid or invoiced at the time of registration.

Graduate Credit

Apply online as a student-at-large (non-matriculated). You must submit official transcripts as part of the application. If admitted, you will register for courses through CAESAR and will be billed the regular Master's in Education tuition rate for each course ($3,958 for fall 2022). Each course taken for graduate credit is 2-and-2/3 semester hours. Participants may need to submit additional course work to receive graduate credit in these Institutes.

Teacher Leadership Pathways Project

Starts September 29th at 6 pm CST ONLINE via Zoom

This all virtual pilot Teacher Leadership cohort will run through the 2022-23 school year. The cohort will meet virtually once a quarter and will culminate in a job embedded practicum project that will showcase your impact and growth as a teacher leader. You will work with other emerging teacher leaders while being exposed to national experts and coached by experienced educators.

Teacher leaders who successfully complete the Pathways Project will receive a microcredential, along with building their leadership capacity and impact. A generous grant from the National Education Association and support from Northwestern University allows us to keep the cost to $499. We have found districts are supportive of professional development for their local teacher leaders, but limited scholarships are available.
