Two New MSLOC Courses Announced on Sustainable Development, Career Advancement

March 13, 2024

As Northwestern MSLOC community members seek to lead change across industries and economies, MSLOC continues to innovate and adapt our curriculum to develop key capabilities for positive organizational transformation. Launching in the 2024-2025 academic year, MSLOC will offer two new half-credit (0.5) courses that use learning and organizational change lenses to champion planetary health and individual career development. Available to all students enrolled in the MSLOC program, these courses are designed specifically for students pursuing a degree full-time or on an accelerated one-year path .

Starting in Fall Quarter 2024, MSLOC 412 Exploring Sustainable Development for Organizations will invite students to embark on an exploration of how to become an architect of positive change in the world. Students will work to create solutions that are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and UN Global Compact Principles for organizations. Through a structured exploration, students will learn how to translate these health and well-being aspirations into actionable problem statements, creating a roadmap for organizational leaders to drive impactful solutions. See the full course description here.

Starting in Winter Quarter 2025, MSLOC 413 Developing for Career Advancement will equip learners to evaluate, discover, prepare for, and engage with potential career paths, for use in both their own professional development and coaching others. Students will develop career paths and value propositions through discussion and application of career development tools and models, engagement in individual coaching, and facilitated peer exchange. Students also will build the foundations needed for career advancement by surfacing personal and professional values, articulating desired job specifications, and defining career success. See the full course description here.

The MSLOC curriculum is arranged into four pillars: learning and performance, change and design, networks and strategy, and research and practice. MSLOC 412 will be an elective under the research and practice pillar, and it will also support preparation for the MSLOC Capstone sequence. MSLOC 413 will be an elective under the learning and performance pillar, and it will support both personal career development and students aspiring to offer career coaching for their clients.

Class sessions for these half-credit courses will be held during the day and will offer both in-person and virtual options to facilitate community-building goals.
